Position Description: Responsibilities of the Associate Director of College Readiness will include but are not limited to:

Research and Design the 9-12 College Readiness Seminar Curricula

• Research existing curricula nationally to understand similarities and differences in content, approach, and execution

• Collect and analyze key resources from various external curriculum providers

• Use data from internal and external research, including data from Achievement First alumni, to revise current standards, scope and sequences, interim assessments, and unit plans for grades 9-12

• Evaluate and further develop rubrics for key performance-based assessments and for the implementation of program

• Network with external CMO and districts who offer a similar course to learn best practices and lessons learned from curriculum development, change, and implementation

• Build relationships and work closely with Achievement First’s high school principals, deans of college, College Readiness Seminar teachers, and summer program coordinators to ensure a high-level of input,

investment, and collaboration for curriculum build and implementation

Facilitate Professional Development

• Develop and lead professional development for all college readiness teachers (~10 people) that support vision setting for the College Readiness Seminar program, implementation of the curriculum and

growth of instructional practices through beginning of year PD sessions and ongoing Days of Practice 3-4 times throughout the year

• Work in partnership with school-based Deans of College to provide on-site support of College Readiness Seminar teachers through the support of their planning and execution of the College Readiness


Coaching and Observations

• Conduct focused observations 4-5 times a month at our high schools to push content-specific instructional practices, improve implementation of curriculum, gather information on best practices and pilot new projects

• Develop instructional eye of Deans of College and principals through focused co-observations and feedback

Analyze Data

• Deeply analyze student achievement data (vocabulary growth, student work samples, interim assessments and performance-based assessments) to determine how to better develop materials and provide targeted, high quality teacher training

Summer Program Partnership Outreach & Spots

• Determine and implement best practices for using the College Readiness Seminar course to ensure that scholars understand the importance of the summer program requirement, have an opportunity to

learn about these experiences from their peers, and use the Seminar course as an effective means of of supporting the application process

• Maintain current summer program partnerships (17 current pre-college partnerships)

• Secure additional network-wide summer program opportunities including pre-college and internship spots

• Liaise with school-based teams to ensure timely submission of applications for all network partnerships for summer programs.


• A bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university

• A teaching career with four or more years of highly successful teaching experience. We will consider a candidate with a minimum of two years of teaching experience with exceptional results if there is

relevant prior work experience.

• A proven, multi-year track record of exemplary teaching achievement, especially the achievement of low-income, minority students
