Dear Sorors,

Again, we made history. From the Public Meeting to Byron Cage who transformed the Marriott into a sanctuary of praise and everything in between, we enjoyed each other’s company and labored to keep high the standards of Alpha Kappa Alpha in just three plenary sessions. Many thanks to you for your attendance and dedication to the North Atlantic Region, and our dear sisterhood! Words seem inadequate to express my appreciation to each of you who attended the Centennial North Atlantic Regional Conference in order to make it abundantly successful. You registered in record numbers to the tune of 3,100. The largest conference this year. The events and meetings of March 5-9, 2008 were Extraordinary, Stimulating and Powerful.

On your calendar, somewhere around the middle of July, each of you has declared an end to the countdown to the 63rd Boule. Get ready for the surprises and prepare for this momentous week of amazing festivities. As we look forward to the 63rd Boulé in Washington, DC, we will again coalesce under one roof in the city of our sisterhood’s birth. Washington, DC awaits our arrival and the hostess chapters are poised to extend their sisterly love and affection to the more than 23,000 sorors who are expected to attend this unprecedented centennial celebration.

This is our one and only chance to let the world know that the North Atlantic Region gave birth to our great sisterhood over 100 hundred years ago! I know you have heard that a lot lately, but just let the enormity of it all truly sink in. Remember the first day of your journey as an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman. Recount your partners in sisterhood and how they have impacted your life and that of others. This is the legacy of our dear founders- sisterhood unparalleled and service supremely rendered.

Wear your AKA with dignity and pride, knowing there’s truly no other like our sisterhood. It is the pride that comes from knowing that you belong to a sisterhood that was visionary from day one and pioneering enough to last 100 years in a class by itself.

Finally, take time to reflect on all that you have done in the name of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Enjoy your summer and get ready for what lies ahead. I have no doubt that you will continue to devote yourselves to influential service projects and community events that will have an enduring impact on your local areas. It is because of your chapters and the innovation of its members that Alpha Kappa Alpha maintains its stature as supreme in service to all mankind.

I will be right alongside you as I start my second term. Thank you for your confidence, support, and re-election. For that, I remain your committed servant leader. Sorors, our work is never done and I encourage all of you invest in our region through committee service. My ears, heart and e-mail account are always open to your feedback and volunteerism. Together, we are ready to forge ahead to phase two of our journey. There are many exciting adventures ahead as you continue to Sample the Future and Honor the Legacy.

Sisterly,

Soror Evelyn Sample-Oates
Centennial North Atlantic Regional Director
