Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated
North Atlantic Region 2018 AKA Day at the Capitol Pennsylvania
I hope this letter finds you happy and blessed! I hope everyone had an opportunity to celebrate the momentous occasion of the founding of our illustrious sorority—110 years strong. Let’s remember the resiliency of our founders to sustain us during these difficult times. May we face each day with a renewed sense of grace.
Chapter Connection Chairmen from across the Commonwealth have been planning an informative AKA Day at the Capitol. It is our hope that sorors will leave Harrisburg, PA energized to get back to their local communities with the necessary tools to advocate on behalf of children and senior citizens, our most vulnerable assets. In addition, sorors will be prepared to mobilize to get out the vote and learn effective strategies to conduct successful voter registration drives.
The Pennsylvania AKA Day at the Capitol will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the State Capitol Building in Harrisburg, PA. The theme for this year’s day is, “Take A.C.T.I.O.N.: Be the Voice 4 Your Family, Community, State and Nation.” As you know, this is our final call to A.C.T.I.O.N (Advocate, Communicate, Train, Influence, Organize and Network) under the current administration. It has certainly been an honor and a pleasure to serve.
We will have an action-packed day. We will host a panel discussion featuring members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senators of the Pennsylvania State Senate, who represent the legislative districts in which the sorors reside. Next, we will hear updates on the tremendous work the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus (PLBC) has completed over the past year. Sorors will be recognized in both chambers of the General Assembly. Finally, sorors will have an opportunity to meet with their local representatives and senators to discuss issues effecting their communities. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Please note registration will be available online through the North Atlantic Regional website from January 23, 2018 through March 2, 2018. The registration cost is $30.
Mark your calendars and save the date: Tuesday, March 13, 2018. I look forward to seeing everyone in Harrisburg, PA on March 13th. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
