Our Cluster V chapter Connection chairmen have been working very diligently with me to ensure the success of our 2017 AKA Day at the Capitol, which will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in partnership with the American Heart Association, (AHA). During this most significant time in history, our presence is expected and needed more than ever. Please encourage your chapter members and undergraduates to attend. We are looking forward to a powerful Day at the Capitol.
We will be at the state Legislative Office building and will be using our collective voice to advocate for key priorities that will improve the overall health of our neighbors and communities.
We will focus on getting the training and tools to be able to focus on a myriad of issues affecting our African American communities.
We will provide a heart healthy breakfast, as well as receive advocacy training that morning which will include a review of the key issues and talking points. AHA will provide us with materials to give to your lawmaker and will assist in scheduling quick “meet and greet” visits with your state Representative and Senator (or their staff) to talk about our legislative priorities.
If your chapter can, we also encourage you to also bring your ASCEND students. The program is free and open to all. Special thanks to our North Atlantic Regional Director, Meredith L. Henderson for her continued hard work and for the support she continues to give.
NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO PAPER REGISTRATION AND THERE IS NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION.
