CENTENNIAL REGIONAL DIRECTOR - EVELYN SAMPLE-OATES

Evelyn Sample-Oates is Vice President of Marketing and Client Relations for Keystone Quality Transport. A Medical transportation company located in Philadelphia, PA servicing hospitals and nursing homes in and around the Philadelphia area.

Evelyn is a 1988 graduate of The American University in Washington, DC. There she earned a dual bachelor’s degree in the area of Broadcast Journalism and Marketing, Evelyn, a native of Philadelphia, was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) in April of 1984.

On Saturday, April 1, 2006 Evelyn was elected to serve as the 31st North Atlantic Regional Director for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. In this capacity she will oversee 130 chapters with close to seven thousand members. Embodying the true spirit of AKA, Evelyn completed four years as President of Rho Theta Omega Chapter, a Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She dedicated her tenure to enhancing the organization’s national education programs, reactivating members of the organization and increasing Rho Theta Omega’s outreach in the Philadelphia community. Because of her hard work, she received the highest honor from the North Atlantic Region as President of the Year for two consecutive years and Large Chapter of the Year for two consecutive years. She served as Chairman of the Board for the Ivy Legacy Foundation for four years, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization founded by the ladies of Rho Theta Omega Chapter to help graduating high school seniors pursue their dreams of higher education.

Evelyn currently serves on the Board of Director’s for the Philadelphia Dance Company, The Maternity Care Coalition, serves as a trustee for her Alma Mater, Merion Mercy High School for Girls, and is a member of the Links Incorporated, Philadelphia Chapter, the Junior League of Philadelphia, The Coalition of 100 Black Women and Jack & Jill of America, Montgomery County Chapter. She believes, “To Whom Much is Given, Much is Expected.” She lives her life by giving back realizing that she has been blessed with all the riches life has to offer.

Most recently, Clear Channel Communications (WDAS – Radio) honored her as one of the 2006 “Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things”. The Philadelphia Tribune identified her as one of Philadelphia’s most influential African Americans for the years 2002, 2003 and 2004. In addition, she received the Forty Under Forty Award in the City of Philadelphia in 2002, 2003 and 2004 for being one of the city’s movers and shakers under the age of 40 that is making a true difference in the city. In 2004, the Tuskegeee University Philadelphia Alumni Chapter honored her for community service. She was honored by the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, Mu Omega Chapter with the Humanitarian Award for outstanding volunteerism in 2006 and was given the Excellence Award by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Rho Chapter in March 2007.

Evelyn has always looked to her parents as her role models. She remembers fondly the words her parents echoed when she was growing up by the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve…You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. And you can be that servant.” Evelyn prides herself on being that servant leader in the community.

She is a member of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church and the proud wife of Dr. Patrick Oates. Her brightest and biggest accomplishment to date is being the mother of three-year old, Andrea-Rose.
